Livestock and Bloodstock Mortality Insurance

Lindsey Specialty Insurance provides help protecting your investment with Bloodstock Insurance and/or Livestock Mortality Insurance.

Mortality insurance provides coverage for the purchase price (or justified value) of an animal upon its death or humane destruction due to illness or injury; it also includes transportation and theft insurance. We can provide coverage for Alpacas & Llamas, most Cattle breeds, Horses and exotic animals. Equine Mortality Coverage

Coverage is provided for death as a result of injury, illness, humane destruction and transportation anywhere in the continental United States. Coverage can be extended to include other countries and international transportation.

Annual Premium rate is based on:

  • Breed
  • Use
  • Age

Following Endorsements are available to Mortality policy:

1. Major Medical & Surgical - Cover is provided for the reasonable and customary cost of all medical & surgical procedures. Maximum limit is $x,xxx and is subject to $xxx deductible per illness, injury or incident. Cost: $xxx Annually.

2. Surgical Only - Provides coverage for the actual cost of surgery and additionally pays up to 25% of the cost of surgery for medication and additional expenses. Maximum limit is $x,xxx and is subject to "zero" deductible. Cost: $xxx Annually.

3. Loss of Use (Injury Only) - This coverage is available in the event that your horse is permanently unable to perform its function as a result of an external accident or violent injury. Provides payment of up to 605 of the amount of indemnity due under the mortality policy. Rates are based on use, sex and age. (Estimated: 1.8% of insured amount). BREEDING IS NOT COVERED UNDER LOSS OF USE.

4. Stallion A.S. & D. - In the event your proven stud becomes permanently incapable of impregnating mares as a result of accident, sickness or disease, you will receive payment not to exceed the amount of indemnity due under the mortality policy. Coverage is charged at a rate of 1% of the stallions insured amount. Note: this coverage requires a satisfactory fertility examination by a certified veterinarian.

NAMED PERILS POLICY

This policy covers death as a direct result of fire, lightning, explosion, or resultant smoke, plus other coverage including a peril of transportation, windstorm, earthquake or flood. Death by visible means only. 

Cattle Mortality and Theft Coverage

Underwriting Guidelines

Ages 3 months to 7 years
Coverage can be bound on cattle that are insured for $15,000 or less with a completed *Application Declaration of Health, if they have not been treated by a veterinarian in the past 12 months for an illness or injury.

Animals over $15,000 or less than 90 days of age
Underwriters will require a satisfactory *Application and Veterinary Certificate of Examination if an animal(s) insured value exceeds $15,000, is less than 90 days old or has been treated by a veterinarian in the past 12 months for an illness or injury.

Bull Permanent Infertility Coverage
Coverage is provided for proven bulls in the event they become permanently incapable of breeding. This coverage is not available for unproven bulls. Underwriters require a current and satisfactory veterinary & fertility certificate before coverage can be bound.
